「モチ」という名の競走馬がいる。珍名のパイオニア・小田切有一氏が所有する競走馬だ。小田切氏の代表馬には2006年高松宮記念を勝ったオレハマッテルゼ、その姉で放牧先の火事で亡くなったエガオヲミセテ等がいる。

デビュー戦では３着という惜しい結果に終わったが、「モチがよく伸びました」という実況には笑ってしまった。
これがネットを中心に瞬く間に広がり、モチの人気は全国区となっていった。

デビュー５戦目、正月開催で初勝利。それだけでもネタとしては十分だが、続く若駒ステークスも勝ち2連勝。
若駒Sを勝った馬はその後もオープンクラスで活躍していることから、非常に注目の集まる３歳限定のオープン特別レースである。過去の勝ち馬にはリンカーン、フサイチジャンク、そして名馬・ディープインパクトらがいる。

若駒Sでは初の芝コース、そして格上挑戦ということもあって５番人気に甘んじた。
レースが始まると、先頭に立ちスローペースで進行。余力を残したまま最後の直線へ。クルサードが抜群の末足で迫りくるも、持ち前の粘り腰で逃げ切った。
出世レースを勝ったことはもちろん、そのレースでディアデラノビアの弟・クルサードを下したことに何よりの価値があるだろう。

このあとは皐月賞トライアル・弥生賞（GⅡ）に向かうとのこと。是非頑張って欲しい。
